THE ONE ROOM HOTEL

Eight years before the current Corona crisis, the book ‘Socially responsible corporate action in turbulent times’ by economics professor Teun Hardjono deals with the paradox of solidarity and economic efficiency. In their contribution ‘The One-Room Hotel or the Rebirth of Retreat’ Tanja C. Vollmer and Gemma Koppen present their utopia of an omnipresent urban retreat, which they place exemplarily in the dense Ruhr area, in Essen. Whether physical, psychological or economic crisis, their one-room hotels are nests of thought and retreat that hover above the roofs and worries and yet are firmly anchored in peoples’ basic needs.
